Shimano Winter Series #2 Results: XC and Super D

(2/3/2009)
By Ed Arnet
Not quite yet satisfied with the state of affairs of American mountain bike racing, Southridge Racing Club's Donny Jackson continues to shake things up. New for 2009 is a complete restructuring of the age breakdowns in each racing division. After studdying the finish times of the individual age brackets, Don reshuffled the divisions so that it would guarantee closer racing. So far it’s working. The restructuring has led to stacked classes and more intense racing this year. The Shimano Winter Series is presented by Subaru.

Shimano, KHS, Subaru, ODI, Mr. Dirt, Giant, SixSixOne, Chumba Racing, Proghorn,
Division 26, Dainese and The City of Fontana were on hand to offer full support.

Expert start: Robert Himki, Wade Arnold, Tim Zandbergen, Wayne Hermes, Marc Lundgren,
David Stowell, Eddie Arnet, Stephen Smith, Glen Fraser, Ben Eisley and Ralph Bonnin
.

On the second lap Eric Bierman, eventually Pro winner Robert Herber and Michael Hansen,
Romolo Forcino and Greg Buhl were still this close.

Monique "Pua" Sawicki flies up a new section of trail and on to finish in an impressive time that
would have earned 5th in Men’s Pro.

Krista Park chased hard after Monique. Krista travels the States racing mountain bikes and
last year, won the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo and the New Mexico Super D Championship.

Wade Arnold on a new section of course that drops down to street level. Ex Supercross
Champion Mike Bell follows and Jeff Mabry sets up for the same shortcut option.

Road pro Brenda Lyons (630) took 1st Open Woman. Coming up on her is MBA Test
Rider Jon Buckell--1st 19-26 Sport, 3rd Pro Super D and 5th in Pro Downhill.

Instead of yelling, Bear Valley Bike’s Pro Derek Hermon (back) encourages top 9-10 rider Cole Avery.
That is 19-26 Expert Nicholas Jacobs (210E) followed by winning 18- Expert Garrett Garcia.
