Day Two down. One to go. Here are some tasty tidbits seen but not ridden.
This is the best looking travel case we have seen. Made by Canada's Biknd
, that is a large-size downhill bike packed in there with plenty of protection including air bags and built-in rollers to make it easy to slide through the airport. Dubbed the Jetpack, if you fly with your bike and you love your bike, this is cheap insurance. $450.
A sweet-looking O'Neal 5 Series Wingman Helmet
. You know how to make this helmet even sweeter? Sell it for $129.99.
Lumberjack kit was the most strange outfit of the show. Yes, they were goofing around. The Devinci Troy Carbon SL
2x10 has a swingarm bridge that should kill any unwanted flex. The carbon wrap was like looking at artwork. Yes, those are 27.5 inch wheels and 5.5 inches of rear wheel travel.
Thank Brian Lopes for this new show from Pearl Izumi
. Flexing the shoe leads us to believe that this will work great for hike-a-bike sections while the carbon cleat platform should deliver plenty of rigidity. Brian used a prototype to win a World Cup Eliminator.
Socks are socks, right? You pick a color and ride them until your toes poke a hole in them. DeFeet
doesn't think so. The new LeviTator Trail socks use panels to offer more protection and venting. The sole is also a special design to offer more comfort and support. We ordered a set on the spot.
The KHS SixFifty7500
is already on our got-to-test-this bike list. It has 6.3-inches of travel, 27.5 inch wheels, a 1x11 drivetrain, Maxxis Ardent tires, and Avid X0 brakes. Oh yes, check out the KS LEV dropper seatpost as standard equipment. Retail is $5249.
A close-up of the KHS SixFifty7500
shock low position and split seattube. Ditching the front derailleur mount sure cleans up any bike's appearance. Kenda
showed a new Nevegal tire for 27.5 and 29 inch wheels. The knob pattern is totally different from the last design. We got to ride this tire for the last two weeks and it brings the Nevegal to a new level of rolling performance and cornering control. Full test is coming.
calls their products "alternative cycling apparel" and we have to agree. Their designs seem to work as well for off-road riding as for roadies. We remember when these guys operated out of a 10x10 booth and had a half dozen jerseys. Every year they add more space and more apparel.
Bird's Eye GoPro mount can position your cam in front of the stem or above or below it. The mount is made from Delrin that is a material that appears to be a type of plastic. The company claims the material is more expensive than 6061 aluminum and less likely to scratch your bar while mounting.
iPhone mount allows landscape or vertical positioning or flip it around and film your ride.
The Niner WFO 9
Limited uses hydroformed aluminum tubes and offers 5.9-inches of rear wheel travel. The rear suspension is Niner's own CVA. Suspension linkage is forged and hardware is Niner's own alloy custom design. Want to go big?
has pretty much perfected the carbon framed hardtail 29er. The Air 9 Carbon can be built as a cross-country racer but the frame has enough compliance to be the perfect start for a lightweight, super-fast trailbike. You know, this could be our desert island pick. No problem. We could ride this bike until the all the trails end.
What was this guy doing in the Ryders Eyewear
booth? We have no idea. The new Azonic
$129 Wicked platform pedal is shaped so your can pedal late going into the corners and pedal sooner coming out of the corners. The cartridge bearings are easy to replace.
makes their products from post consumer recycled rubber (mostly from tire tubes). These 3-Play Turtles will treat you favorite dog to hours of gum munching fun. RockiNoggins
are helmet covers that make you look very fashionable in any unfashionable helmet.
Another cool product from Cycle Dog. The Pick Up Bags
can be carried in the neat tire tube pouch. They are biodegradable corn based bags
made in the USA. Pick up after your dog so we don't pick it up with our Nevegals.
The $6500 Diamondback Sortie Black 29
offers 4.9 inches of travel through the Diamondback Knuckle Box linkage. You get a 1x11 drivetrain, Crankbrothers wheels, WTB Wolverine tires and Fox suspension with Kashima coating. There are three other lower price points.
