It is hard to believe after riding the Alpine Trail north of Westfir, Oregon (about 30 minutes outside of Eugene) just two weeks ago that the place was susceptible to wildfires. The deep, green forest seemed too wet to burn but the news this morning proves our observation wrong. A lightning strike has started a fire and closed the trail.

Hard to believe a trail as lush as this one could burn.
A view from the Alpine Trail shows there is plenty of fuel to stoke the fire. We understand how fires start in our dry California conditions but this news proves no forest is safe.
