In late April the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), asked mountain bikers to band together to help the northern California based youth development organization raise $75,000 in order to secure a matching grant of equal amount from Dick’s Sporting Goods Sports Matter crowd funding platform. In what was NICA’s most successful fundraising campaign to date as riders not only came together by hitting the needed goal and enabling NICA to collect a check in excess of $158,000 from Dick’s Sporting Goods Foundation.
NICA’s matching grant campaign got an immediate confidence boost with Shimano and Pearl Izumi’s opening pledge of $20,000 and mid-way through, an additional $5000 shot from Diamondback. Quality Bicycle Products, a current NICA supporter, agreed to match any of their vendors up to $5000. Since NICA made its goal and thus earned the match without that contribution, QBP closed out the campaign anyway with what proved to be an added bonus.
In addition to riders who dug deep and contributed, here are the bike companies who donated. And you know the old saying, “support the people who support the sport.”
