Sticky magnets that keep you on the bike
Maglock pedals use a revolutionary design that we’ve never seen before. Instead of using mechanical engagements to clip the rider’s shoe to the pedal, the Maglocks use strong, neodymium magnets embedded in the pedals to attract a big magnet that bolts to the bottom of an SPD-compatible shoe. The benefit is that when a rider with Maglock pedals is falling over, the natural twisting of the shoes will cause the feet to release automatically. The Maglock guys claim this will dramatically reduce the number of bloody gashes riders get from falling onto sharp rocks in a sideways track stand. Maglock pedals are available online at www.maglockbikepedal.com for $165, and you can have your name inscribed on them for $220.
MCWHINNEY DESIGNS TG-3 RING
The wedding ring for riders
These rings are sophisticated, high-performance mechanical pieces designed to be beautiful and rugged. Each ring is low profile and designed specifically for active sports like cycling. Each of McWhinney’s designs features a hinged mechanism so you can easily get the ring off if you stub your finger in a crash and it swells. The TG-3 is made from the highest-quality, aerospace-grade titanium and is machined in Jeff McWhinney’s shop in Santa Rosa, California, where he also machines other frame parts for small frame builders around the world. Check out all the options at www.mcwhinneydesigns.com.
WOLF TOOTH ELLIPTICAL CHAINRING
Get an extra spring in your step
Elliptical chainrings are making a huge comeback—and for good reason. While they may look a little funny, the benefits on the trail can be significant. Wolf Tooth’s Drop-Stop line offers some of the best narrow-wide chainrings out there. The new elliptical ring uses the same tooth profile needed for 1x setups but has an oval shape. This ring is available in a handful of mounting options and starts at $70. All Wolf Tooth’s rings are made in the USA and can be found at www.wolftoothcomponents.com.
SOURCE D/VIDE 2-IN-1 HYDRATION RESERVOIR
Feeling doubly thirsty today
This reservoir allows riders to carry two drinks in a single reservoir with two separate compartments and hoses. That means you can carry water and a sports drink, two different flavors of a sports drink, or water and a cocktail for when you finish the ride. The reservoir works best with Source’s packs built for the two separate hoses, but we’re willing to bet that with a little ingenuity you could make it work with almost any existing hydration pack. The reservoir features Source’s taste-free system, which keeps you from tasting any plastic residue. It also has an anti-bacterial coating and is super easy to clean. Sells for $45.
