Maybe we should stop calling them “mountain” bikes and start referring to them as “trail” bikes. That way, it wouldn’t matter if the trail snaked up into the mountains, cut a swath across the vast plains of the Midwest, or meandered over flat, sandy stretches of Florida. The only thing that would matter is being on a trail. After checking out the latest batch of photos from trail riders, we think you will agree.

IT’S A BEAUTIFUL MORNING

More evidence that riding in Tucson is beautiful. This is morning on the Sweetwater Trail system.

SULLIVAN’S TRAVELS

Linda Engle and the trail-running poodle (Ninja) on Sullivan’s. One of many stunning singletrack trails on Pocatello Idaho’s West Bench.

RIVER RIDE

Rain and cold weather can’t stop me from riding to the top of the Santa Ana River Trail. Right after taking this photo, I got a pinch flat. Just my luck.

MIDDLE EARTH NEWS

My friend Kristi took this picture of me riding Middle Earth Trail in Southern Oregon. It was her first time riding this trail, and she can’t wait to hit it again on her next trip out from Durango.

BIG TIRES, BIG SKY

Big Sky riding at its finest in Montana’s Tobacco Root Mountains. Unfortunately, epic rides are becoming harder to find with the extreme anti-mountain biking groups in Montana. Thanks to IMBA and all the local clubs for their hard work in preserving these great trails.

TWO CLASSICS

One of my collectables on Cape Perpetua Trail on the Central Oregon Coast. This 10-mile loop is a very mellow singletrack through forest and creeks with an absolute-blast bombing run on the way down. Misjudge a turn and you’re bathing in a creek full of melted-snow water or hanging from a tree.

Florence, Oregon

FRONT YARD RIDE

Nothing like walking out your front door and pedaling up a mountain. The wildflowers on Beaver Creek were in full bloom, and I had to stop to take a pic.

DEEP IN THE HEART

A COLLAGE OF TRAILS
