Trek Bicycle just sprung news that the Slash and Remedy lines will be offered in 27.5-inch wheel options in their “technical trail” and “enduro” product lines. Trek, who with this announcement beats their biggest rival, Specialized Bikes, to the 27.5 punch, views the 27.5-inch wheel as a “long-travel” application while the 29-inch-wheel will remain their wheel of choice for their Fuel EX line of trailbikes and Top Fuel cross-country race bikes.
The 6.3-inch-travel Slash appears to be redesigned with a lower bottom bracket and slacker head tube than the 26-inch version. Trek is claiming that the new frame weights 12 ounces less than the 26-inched-wheel version.
The Remedy line adds 5.5-inch-travel alloy and carbon 27.5 options to complement (or should that be “compete” with?) the 29er lineup launched in June. The Remedy 27.5 version will be offered in both OCLV MTB carbon and Alpha Platinum Aluminum.
Both models should be in Trek dealership this fall.
