2010 Trek Mountain Bike Preview

Trek recently introduced their 2010 cross-country and trailbike line at the Salzkammergut (meaning “Estate of the Salt Chamber”) area resort in Altaussee, Austria.

The grand scenery of the Austrian Alps played second fiddle to Trek’s 2010 lineup highlights, including refined ABP (Active Braking Pivot) suspension for the Top Fuel cross-country race bike, an updated and improved Fuel EX, plus, the all-new carbon-framed Remedy all-mountain trailbike. Look for complete coverage of Trek’s 2010 mountain bike line in our upcoming November issue.

Along with the opportunity to ride the latest Top Fuel and Fuel EX bikes, a handful of journalists and Trek employees present in Altaussee participated in the iconic Salzkammergut Trophy cross-country marathon event.

The freezing temperatures and relentless rain, hail and snow, transformed the challenging marathon cross-country event from a battle of endurance to a test of will. Enduring the horrid conditions meant nearly four hours on the bike to complete the 50k

Travis Brown (right) gave the 100K event a shot, and worked his way through the field before the 100-killometer distance was canceled due to inclement weather.

FUEL EX 9.9 DETAILS

One of MBA’s favorite bikes of 2009, the 4.7-inch-travel Trek Fuel EX 9.9 now features a Fox Shox 32 F-Series Fit RLC fork with a15QR thru axle, the Fox DRCV (Dual Rate Control Valve) shock and a carbon fiber Truvativ Noir crankset.

Trek describes the Fuel EX as having two shocks in one. The goal of the Fox DRCV shock is to provide efficient pedaling while being able to transition into soaking up big hits without any compromise in suspension performance. The DRCV shock is designed to seamlessly transition between the first and second chambers providing the linear shock feel of a coil spring. The Fuel EX will carry the DRCV shocks down the line to the aluminum EX 8 model.

Stealing the show in Austria was the highly anticipated carbon fiber framed six-inch-travel Remedy all-mountain bike. Trek will offer two carbon and two aluminum-framed Remedies, each of which will utilize a Fox Shox fork with a 15QR thru-axle, and the Fox DRCV RP23 shock.
