Santa Cruz rider Keegan Swenson will trade his knobbies for skinny tires when he lines up for the 2022 UCI Road World Championships in Australia later this month. Last week, USA Cycling took the unusual step of naming the mountain biker to the elite men’s road racing roster after a series of dominant off-road performances that’s put him atop the standings in the Lifetime Grand Prix race series.
With multiple mountain bike national championships to his credit and commanding wins at the Sea Otter Classic, Leadville 100, SBT GRVL, and Crusher in the Tushar, the Utah native’s pure pedaling power is undeniable. And while not known as a roadie, he may be the country’s best endurance athlete on two wheels, no matter the shape of the handlebars or width of the tires.
The 28-year-old will join countrymen Lawson Craddock, Scott McGill, Neilson Powless, Kyle Murphy, and Magnus Sheffield in the grueling 165-mile circuit race through the Australian coastal city of Wollongong.
