Mathieu van der Poel narrowly wins the Elite Men’s event with Thomas Pidcock second in a photo-finish sprint ending

America’s Haley Batten won the World Cup XCC Short Track Race at Nove Mesto in Czech Republic on Friday afternoon; Kate Courtney finished 9th

 

France’s Pauline Ferrand Prevot (the 2020 Elite Women’s XCO UCI World Champion) crashed hard and pulled out of the race and was reportedly taken away in an ambulance, but the doctors reportedly examined her and said that she was not seriously injured, and she is expected to race on Sunday.)

Mathieu van der Poel narrowly won the Elite Men’s event with England’s 21-year-old Thomas Pidcock placing second in a close finish. Nino Schurter placed 12th after leading the race at one point. Americans Keegan Swenson and Christopher Blevins placed 27th and 34th respectively.
