ASK MBA: WHAT ARE THE BEST BIKE ANTI-THEFT AND RECOVERY TRACKING DEVICES?
Because thieves suck!

SAFE AND SOUND
Q: Bike thefts, especially of mountain bikes, are on the rise. People are even being held at gunpoint for their bikes. What tracking devices are available out there that we can put on our bikes without impeding our ride, since some tracking devices can be bulky? AirTags don’t work, because after a while they alert the person that there’s an AirTag following them. Thanks.

A: A mountain biker’s worst nightmare. You go out on the town for a beer after a long ride and come back to your truck and your bike is missing. You mention AirTags not working because they alert the perpetrator to their presence after a while. Muc-Off offers a solution with its Stealth Tubeless tag holder. This hides the AirTag from view inside the tire, giving you time to track the bike before they can locate the tag. Another product that has recently appeared on our radar is the SNIK. This device is going to be installed in the steer tube of almost all modern bikes. It is designed to be able to send and receive GPS signals, as well as act like an AirTag connected with Bluetooth. The product looks promising and sales are expected to start in March. You can follow them on Instagram @snik.bike for updates, as well as some radical riding videos. Until that device or devices like it are released, the Tubeless AirTag holder by Muc-Off may be your best bet for tracking down a lost bike.
