IN NEED OF A NEW WHIP
Q: I want to try my hand at local enduro races. They look like so much fun and are quite similar to the way I like to ride. You see, I enjoy taking my time on the climbs in order to have energy for the descents. It also seems like a great way to meet fellow riders, since I’m fairly new to town. My question I have for MBA is, what are the three best enduro race bikes? I don’t want cost to affect your opinion, so please just list the three bikes you think would be my most competitive options. I can research which models I can afford from there.
Crested Butte, Colorado
A: We’ve tested many worthy enduro race bikes, but here are our top three. Currently, at the top of our chart is the latest Santa Cruz Bronson. It has 27.5-inch wheels but handled everything we threw in front of it. The Bronson is well balanced, offering a great pedaling platform for climbing while encouraging confidence on the descents.
Another bike we loved was the Devinci Spartan 29. This bike is your answer to those questionable lines on course. With 170mm of travel in the front and 165mm in back, this bike is a competitive enduro steed that wouldn’t stray away from a nasty rock garden.
We would also list the Pivot Firebird 29 as an awesome tool for the job. The 29-inch wheels and near downhill bike feel encourage riders to stomp through big features and to brake later into the turns. This bike is an all-out speed king capable of winning races. We hope this helps you with your decision, and good luck on your new venture.
