Question:
I’ve always wondered what sets a $4000 bike apart from one that’s over $8000. Is the bike really twice as good, or is it just a bragging-rights kind of thing? I haven’t had the luxury of riding a bike that nice, so I’m curious to hear if it makes a noticeable difference.

Answer:
A bike that costs twice as much won’t be twice as good, but it will be noticeably better. As you spend more on a mountain bike, you will notice the parts and frame will get lighter. You’ll have more suspension adjustments, and the drivetrain will feel crisper. Overall, a top-of-the-line bike offers better performance, but don’t expect it to double. A good rider on a mid-level bike can out-ride a bad rider on a top-of-the-line bike any day.
