Ask MBAction: Hardtail Buying Advice

Diamondback Sync’r Carbon

I’ve been a moto guy forever and long-time subscriber to the brother magazine Motocross Action. I am looking to venture into the mountain bike realm. I am wondering what suggestions you have for budget hardtails that do not skimp too much on components.

I am looking to spend as little as possible for a kit that is fitted with an air fork, tubeless-ready wheels, possibly a dropper post, and as much travel as possible.

I’m very indifferent about wheel size, as I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference as a first-timer. But, I do look to get rowdy on the downs and hit a jump or two.

I have been looking at Diamondback’s Sync’r and the Commencal Meta HT. Any suggestions?
