Ask MBAction: Looking For Fitness Tips
LOOKING FOR FITNESS TIPS

Q: I recently started a training program to boost my fitness and allow me to ride my bike even further. I’ve been eyeing this big out-and-back climb in town, but haven’t been able to ride to the top yet. My program consists of sit-ups, squats and lots of stretching to help me limber up. What other types of workouts should I do to help me achieve my goal of making this challenging climb?

A: Glad to hear you’re taking your fitness seriously, and it sounds like you are targeting the important areas a cyclist needs to focus on. Building leg and core strength is important, but getting out and riding is even better. If there’s a climb you’re trying to conquer, we would suggest separating it into segments. Maybe focus on going halfway up until that feels easy. Then, push a little further each time until you can make it to the top. Spending more time on your bike, in general, will get you more fit, but a fitness plan on the side is a surefire way to boost your results.
