AVID DEBUTS NEW CABLE ACTUATED DISC BRAKE

Good news for anti-hydraulic holdouts. Avid’s new cable actuated brake delivers the stopping power of hydraulic brakes like Shimano and Hayes, but it doesn’t quite attain their linear modulation. Avid was on hand at Kona Camp in Elba, Italy, where MBA’s editors got a chance to test the first production units. The secret to the Avid brakes performance is a flex free cable housing stop in the caliper and red knobs that allow the user to fine tune the brake pad for drag free performance. Estimated cost floats around $100 per wheel. More info coming in the July issue of Mountain Bike Action.
