BRIAN LOPES SIGNS WITH GT….ALMOST!

GT announced that ex-Volvo/Cannondale downhiller, Brain Lopes will be going solo for 2001. Brain has formed an independent team headlined by GT bicycles and Fox Clothing. He is stoked to be on GT’s new i-Drive downhill chassis and was quoted as saying:

?Wow! Are you sure this is a downhill bike? The pedaling is unbelievable!”

As unbelievable as it may seem, the reigning World Cup Dual champion is ready to take on the corporate teams next year. The road to success was paved by Missy Giove, who put together a similar effort after Cannondale dropped her from its team in ?99. Missy went solo, signing with a host of smaller companies and won the US national title. Missy’s title sponsors were Foes bicycles and Azonic clothing.

We wish Brian the best of luck and applaud GT and Fox for their decision to go with one of this country’s best hopes for the podium in next year’s DH campaigns.
