Nicolas Vouilloz and Anne-Caroline Chausson, both of France, again beat all comers in the latest round of the 2000 UCI World Cup downhill series in Aria, Japan, on July 23rd.
Anne-Caroline had a fast but tough race, crashing hard in the final part of the course, then recovering quickly enough to still post the fastest time in the women’s finals. Giove also crashed in her final run and finished about a second slower than Chausson for second place. Marla Streb took third, with a time just over two seconds slower than Giove.
In the men’s ranks, Vouilloz and his perennial rival, Great Britain’s Steve Peat, had one of their closest finishes ever, with Nico beating Peat by .06 seconds. A huge crowd of fans, numbering over 30,000 people, was on hand to witness the racing, in hot and humid weather.
