I do both cyclocross and skiing. The ratio of those depends on how much cyclocross I race. This year I’m actually doing a pretty full ’cross season, and so my skiing season will be shorter. Having said that, I think it’s crucial to change the gears and get off the bike for a bit. Cross-country skiing is such a good workout for a cyclist because you get to work all muscles and build a strong upper body. I also try to fit in some backcountry skiing days. Those are great for endurance fitness and, of course, the experience and fun factor. I’ll do anything outside just to stay away from a gym.

MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION
Mountain Bike Action is a monthly magazine devoted to all things mountain biking (yes, that’s 12 times a year because we never take a month off of mountain biking). It has been around since 1986 and we’re still having fun.
