CONTINENTAL TWISTER PROTECTION

CONTINENTAL TWISTER PROTECTION

If local conditions are rocky, you know that its not possible to use a lightweight racing tire. The abrasive terrain will soon cut through the thin sidewalls. For such conditions, Continental recently introduced the ProTection series. The beefier, Duraskin sidewall only adds 10 grams to the tire weight.
Key features: Like the regular Twister, the Duraskin version includes a moderate-spaced network of small-block, 2-mm tall knobs. This model of Twister, though, includes a polyimide fabric weave Duraskin over the sidewall. The weight of the Twister ProTection is 472 grams. Continental offers the burlier sidewall as an option on most of its performance line.
Labeled a 1.9-inch tire, the Twister measured closer to 2 inches. As the tire rolls, it transfers off one knob directly onto the other, making for a smooth-rolling, fast-pedaling tire. The many knobs provide numerous edges for great hook over packed and loose-over-hard dirt. By raising the shoulder tread to a 4mm height, Continental profiles a gradual radius and broad shoulders. It makes the Twister very predictable when leaned over. The 2-inch size helps the Continental float through loose dirt and sand, but the moderate tread isnt designed to hold hard leans in soft dirt.
MBA rating: Four stars. The Twister ProTection performs great on the packed terrain its intended for, offers good chafing protection and isnt a rubber pig. Suggested retail is $54.99. Call Continental at (800) 223-3207.
