DOWN THE TRAIL: Fondly Remembering MBA’s Past

DOWN THE TRAIL

Fondly remembering MBA’s past

Back in the ’90s Mountain Bike Action had some of the best test riders in the business. No one appeared on more of our covers than Bernie Tusko, who appeared on the cover over 20 times, but not on this one. He did appear inside the issue, however, as you’ll see if you scroll down farther.

Shameless berm buster: Former professional speedway motorcycle racer Bernie Tusko blasts a berm on a Dagger full-suspension bike with a chicken-wire-style laced front wheel, Magura hydraulic rim brakes, Easton frame tubing and the original Mountain Bike Action shorts. This was truly the complete package for the “cool mountain bike guy” from that era. Bernie’s helmet graphics were his own idea and were custom-made by Cool Head, his now defunct visor company, and they still look surprisingly good today. Bernie is now the founder and CEO of another company, Fret Guru, which makes guitar-tuning tools for serious guitarists and the people who work on guitars professionally.

THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO GET MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION

Mountain Bike Action is a monthly magazine devoted to all things mountain biking (yes, that’s 12 times a year because we never take a month off of mountain biking). It has been around since 1986 and we’re still having fun. Start a subscription by clicking here or calling (800) 767-0345.
