First Look – ENVE M525 Wheels

In case you have never heard of ENVE Composites, they’re a carbon fiber manufacturer based out of Ogden, Utah. Over the years ENVE had built a strong reputation with their high end, handmade hoops. New for this year is the M525 for dedicated XC riders and racers looking for something lightweight and well made. These carbon fiber rims are of course handmade in Ogden, Utah.

The M525 is part of a new line up of rims from ENVE with an internal rim width of 25mm and external width of 33.5mm. ENVE designed the M525 around 2.1-2.4 inch wide tires with more of a “V” shape than the M60 rims. The 24-hole rims are laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs. Weight is coming in 10-grams lighter than advertised at 1,361 for our set of 29er wheels.

We just installed the M525’s on a Giant Anthem Advanced 29 with Vittoria Mezcal 29×2.25 tires. The rim looks very clean mated with our set of test tires, almost like they were made for each. We will be putting plenty of miles on these sweet new hoops over the coming weeks, keep an eye out for a full review.
