FIRST LOOK: RAPHA KNEE PADS WITH ACTIVE POLYMER TECHNOLOGY
Rapha utilizes RHEON labs technology in its new ultra-light mountain bike knee pads
(press release)
Rapha enters the protection space with a super lightweight, highly pedal-friendly, trail-oriented knee pad with Level 2, Type B protection – the highest certified level of protection found in any pair of lightweight knee pads on the market. Rapha’s new pads fit knees like a glove as a result of their industry-leading experience across bib shorts and tights and are barely noticeable while pedaling, but also offer superior impact resistance against rocks, roots and yardsales.
RHEON™ Labs’ patented pad geometries allow for armor that is light, airy, and flexible when in motion, but intelligently densifies upon impact to deliver unrivaled levels of energy dissipation. This progressive approach to protection means every rider can find their flow in confidence and comfort, wherever the dirt may lead.
Push progression further with lightweight and efficient pedaling knee pads that boost riding confidence and virtually disappear on the climbs. Made for every ride, every day, everywhere, the Trail Knee Pads are built to work in tandem with the Trail Pants, Trail Shorts and Trail Liner Bib Shorts in Rapha MTB’s range of Performance Trailwear, available now.
CRASH CONFIDENTLY
Rapha worked closely with their partners at RHEON™ Labs to bring an active polymer to market that is flexible during everyday use but reacts to impacts by concentrating more material into the impact zone. Riders’ knees are covered by Level 2, Type B protection – that’s the highest certified level of protection found in any pair of lightweight knee pads.
LAYERS OF TOUGHNESS
The front outer layer of the knee pads are made from SuperFabric®, an incredibly durable ceramic polymer that reduces friction and adds tear resistance so riders won’t get hung up on any obstacles.
SECOND SKIN
Designed for an ergonomic fit with no bulk, these lightweight pads are made to go unnoticed with a high-stretch main fabric that allows for knee articulation and full range of motion while on the trail.
PEDAL IN PEACE
Wide leg gripper sits high on the thigh and works in conjunction with ergonomic patterning behind the knee to keep knee pads in place – no mid-ride fiddling needed here.
GO WITH THE FLOW
Air flows freely through the pad, thanks to geometric patterning of the material, so legs stay sweat-free even on the biggest days. Rapha’s Trail kneepads retail for $110 USD. Look for a long term review in an upcoming issue of Mountain Bike Action. For more information visit www.rapha.cc.
