At the Napa World Cup, we spied these prototype tubeless tires on Specialized FSR of Ben Capron. Since the tires are 2001 product still in the development stages, Specialized wouldn’t give out many details. But we did find out that the tires are UST, meaning they are part of the Mavic alliance and there will be a few other tread patterns besides the ones we photographed. Specialized hinted that there will be treads similar to the current Mt. Baldy and Rockster. Specialized has been using its pro team as a testing ground for the tires but said it wants to expand on the racer’s feedback to include tubeless tires not only for racers but for the general population as well. Specialized would not comment on price or weight at this time but they said MBA should have a set well before the Vegas Interbike show-the tire’s official debut to the public.
Oh yeah–they must work pretty good. Ben smoked the 30+ World Cup race, leading from start to finish.
