First Ride: Fat Bike KHS 4 SEASON 3000
First Ride of KHS 4 Season Fatbike
With a quick flashback, some of you may recall our shootout of a KHS 4 Season 3000 Vs. KHS SixFifty 2500. Fast forward to today, KHS still offers their fat bike 4 Season 3000 as an option within their line up. Although it getting close to summertime, we still put this rig to use on our local Southern California trails. Instantly the fat 26″x4.8″ tires and heavy metal flake paint catches the eye. The frame is Alloy 6061 with a custom formed top tube and down tube. The model we are testing also features an inverted suspension fork by Wren. We are impressed so far with the drivetrain option selected on the 4 Season to keep us moving up steeper terrain. The 12-Speed 11-51t Shimano SLX RD-M7100 with a 28t chainring mounted to the crankset has us shifting smoothly on our first ride.
Skeptical how a fat bike would perform in the “kitty litter” terrain we suffer here in SoCal, we actually found it provided excellent traction. When we pointed the bike down the trail the low tire pressures allowed us to grab and hold onto the loose sections of trail while the bike was also very forgiving if you went offline or put through the rockier section. We’ve pleasantly surprised on our local test routes and are looking forward to having more time on the KHS 4 Season for a full test breakdown. Make sure to snag a magazine for more info on if this bike is right for you.
