GOREWEAR LUPRA WINDSTOPPER JACKET REVIEW – ADAPTABLE TO WINTER VARIABLES

Gore's Windstopper mountain bike jacket is well thought out and versatile

GOREWEAR LUPRA WINDSTOPPER JACKET REVIEW

Tech features:

Weatherproof protection in Gorewear’s Lupra jacket comes in the form of Gore-Tex’s Infinium Windstopper material. This highly water-resistant and windproof material is strategically located on the hood, top of the shoulders, across the chest and in front of the arms.

A highly breathable and quick-drying stretch material is placed across the back and behind the arms. The hood features three elastic adjusters, and there are a pair of zippered front pockets. It’s offered in five different colors: Process Purple, Uniform Sand, Utility Brown, Utility Green, and black.

Field test results:

We were skeptical about Gore’s lack of mechanical vents, but were quickly impressed by this rain jacket’s ability to vent while riding hard. The combination of waterproof and breathable material in key locations gives this jacket a great combination of weather resistance and sweat management.

It gives up some overall waterproofness to other jackets, but we always felt warm and comfortable while riding. It’s also one of the few rain jackets we were willing to wear in cold, dry conditions, an area where most traditional rain jackets just don’t ventilate well enough and are overkill.

Its over-the-helmet hood design is among the best we’ve used, and it stays put thanks to the three-way adjusters and internal silicone grippers. The jacket’s overall fit is superb with a drop tail and pre-bent arms for great on-the-bike feel.

This jacket’s material is thin enough to pack down into most fanny packs without taking up all the room, too. It may not protect from driving rain like other rain-specific jackets or ventilate quite as well as cold-weather jackets, but very few bridge this gap as well as the Gorewear Lupra.
