IMBA-You Can Be Part of The Solution
You and IMBA Can Be the Difference
Information provided by IMBA
Millinocket, Maine recently lost its main economic driver. Fortunately for Millinocket, recreation has always played a role in the identity of the region and this loss might turn out to be an incredible opportunity for Millinocket.
Local mountain bike and trail enthusiasts have envisioned a new 150-mile trail system encompassing backcountry adventures tied directly back to in-town trails, near houses and schools.
Our IMBA friend and partner Mike Smith, with Katahdin Area Trails (KAT), says, “Millinocket has this beautiful terrain on all sides and is perfectly situated to be a mountain bike town. There are decades worth of development to be done, but little steps go a long way here. There are packs of kids riding around this town on their bikes. They’re out there, now they just need the trails.”
With IMBA’s guidance and hands-on help, they have a plan! Ailish Keating with KAT adds, “Before we had the plan done, we had ideas, but no way of conveying them to funders. Once we had the plan, we were able to secure grant funding.” They recently secured $250,000 toward their vision!
IMBA has this same vision for towns around the country. We want trail systems to be as common as baseball diamonds and skateparks, so more people can get out riding.
You can be part of the solution and I’m requesting your support to facilitate new or improved trail systems in 250 “trail towns” nationwide, including your region.
Your gift will help us:
Educate and inspire communities and land managers to plan new trails, and partner with officials to protect access to existing trails.
Fund our IMBA Trail Accelerator grant program to kickstart trail planning and move trail dreams everywhere into reality. Tom and Steuart Walton are generously matching this portion of your gift, up to $250,000, and challenging everyone to help drive local progress and leverage more matching for trails at the local level.
Let’s give more people trails close to home. Make a generous commitment today that will build more trails in 2020.
