I just got an exclusive update from Trek on the current condition of star rider and Olympic hopeful Travis Brown, who broke his tibia in a crash at the Mexico World Cup a week and a half ago. Travis is doing pretty well considering. The other day he took a crank off his bike, propped his bad leg on a chair and did some light pedaling. Next Tuesday he is going to try and do some soft pedaling with both legs at Therapy. Travis is off any pain medication and icing his leg down all day. Coupled with systematic rehab, he feels that recovery will be pretty quick and is looking forward to starting training cycles on his bike. Normal diagnosis is six weeks before he is supposed to be able to put full weight on the leg. With the shape that Travis is in, and the attention he’s giving his leg, it is expected to be sooner than that. Of course the big question is his Olympic outlook. The absolute most optimistic scenario would be that Travis could return by the Canadian World Cups. And in reality, the Olympic committee will most likely be weighing those last 2 races the most before they make their selection July 14th. It all depends on how fast Travis recovers and what kind of form he finds by then. In an email he said,?Mentally, this could turn out to be positive. It has definitely relieved a lot of pressure and given me some time to reflect on racing, the Olympics, and really everything that one forgets due to the distraction we call day-to-day life. It really puts things in perspective.? What is he doing with himself in the meantime? ?Rehab exercises six times a day. Projects around the house that I haven?t had time to address. Answering emails. Checking the get well wishes.? People who want to wish him well can email at: [email protected]
