FIRST LOOK: LAZER JACKAL HELMET WITH NEW KINETICORE TECHNOLOGY
LAZER JACKAL MOUNTAIN BIKE HELMET WITH NEW KINETICORE TECHNOLOGY
Lazer’s all-new Jackal mountain bike helmet features a newly developed rotational impact protection system called KinetiCore that is completely different from other systems currently on the market. Instead of creating a slip-plain like MIPS, KinetiCore utilizes specially shaped blocks and channels that are molded into the EPS foam to create crumple zones that not only provide linear impact protection but rotational as well.
There are many benefits to this technology beyond rotational impact protection. The first one is weight. The KinetiCore version of the Jackal is 50 grams lighter than MIPS version. Another advantage comes in the form of better air flow. WIth the open block and channel structure, KinetiCore allows for more airflow with a claimed 5% better cooling than the MIPS version because there is not a slip plane system to block air flow. The last benefit comes in the form of less plastic and materials used to create the helmet – up to 24% less according to Lazer. So, not only does KinetiCore perform better for your head, it’s also better for the environment.
The Jackal KinetiCore comes in with a claimed weight of 340 grams and according to MBA’s incredibly accurate scales that is one gram low in our size medium test sample. Nineteen vents work with KinetiCore’s inner shapes to prived air flow. The Jackal features Lazer’s TurnSys retention system that provides horizontal and vertical adjustment for a perfect fit. The visor is adjustable and has three detents for easy positioning. The high position leaves plenty of space for goggle storage and rubber grippers on the back of the helmet help hold straps in place. An action camera and light mount is designed to integrate into the helmet’s top vents. A magnetic buckle makes closure and removal easy even with gloves on.
According to Lazer, it has more Virginia Tech five star ratings than any other brand and the new jackal is one of them. The Jackal KinetiCore comes in sizes small, medium and large, costs $220 and will be available in shops by March 20th. It will be offered in five colors: Matte Full Black, Matte dark Grey, Matte Turquoise, Matte Blue Green and Matte Light Blue. Lazer is also offering KinetiCore technology in its road, urban and kid’s models.
