Meet The Riders And Their Rides: Pivot’s Keegan Swenson

Keegan Swenson’s
Pivot Mach 4 SL

Estimated value of Keegan’s bikes: Pivot LES SL Carbon, $8000; Pivot Mach 4 SL, $12,000

Frame: Pivot Mach 4 SL with Fox Live Valve, I normally run the Live Valve on setting 3, but I have used 2, 4 and 5 as well. It is really just course and terrain dependent. Once you get it dialed in you can really just set it and forget it for the race or whatever area you are riding in. The Live Valve really shines for me in chunky terrain of all sorts, the suspension just does what it needs to do without you having to think about it.

Fork: “Fox Stepcast 2020, 100mm, 3 volume spacers, 81PSI.

Tires: “I pretty much always race the Maxxis Aspen 2.25 EXO model with 21/22psi….sometimes 20psi in the front if it’s slippery!”

Tubeless tire sealant: “I have all my wheels and tires set up with Stan’s NoTubes sealant.”

Rims: “I race and train on the Stan’s NoTubes Podium SRD wheels. Stan’s wheels are very compliant on the hardtail. They smooth out the ride and help reduce vibration. They also hold the tire really well, so they don’t burp out air as much as other wheels. They’re smooth up and down, but they’re laterally stiff if you’re standing up sprinting or in a hard turn.”

Spokes: “Stock Stan’s Podium SRD spokes.”

Front hub: “Stan’s Neo Ultimate.”

Rear hub: “Stan’s Neo Ultimate.”

Brakes: “I always use Shimano XTR 9100 Race brakes with 160mm rotors.”

Handlebars: “I use the Pro Bike Tharsis Carbon flat bar, which is stock at 720mm and has a 9-degree sweep.”

Bottom bracket: “Pivot press-fit BB.”

Grips: “I use and love the ESI Chunky and TOGS Flex Togs.”

Cranks: “Shimano XTR 9100, 170mm with 4iiiis power meter.”

Chainring: “I normally use a 36t or 38t Shimano XTR 9100 ring, but sometimes a 34t or even a 32t if the race course has really steep climbs.”

Pedals: “Always Shimano XTR 9100, turned pretty much all the way up. Shimano XTR pedals are very durable, have an awesome pedaling platform and you can adjust the tension, which is huge for me.”

Chain: “Shimano XTR 9100. I change it whenever my chain gauge says to or when Myron (our team mechanic) says it is time.”
