Switch Direct-Mount Chainrings
Launched by a small team of Canadian mountain bike riders in Squamish, British Columbia, OneUp Components is always looking for ways to enhance products. This could be anything from customizing your cockpit to upgrading your dropper post lever to coming up with new ways to store tools during rides. The three founders of OneUp are former Race Face engineers who designed a quick-change direct-mount chainring system called Switch. We installed the latest Switch on a few of our favorite test rigs to answer the ultimate question: Do riders really need a quick-change chainring system?
The main draw of the Switch design is being able to replace the front chainring without ever needing to remove the crankset. Essentially, it is engineered to have a small spider that is secured to the chainring with four Allen bolts. The Switch is optimized for 1x drivetrains and features a narrow/wide-tooth profile to keep the chain secure over rough terrain. OneUp uses a 7075-T6 alloy that puts the weight right at 69 grams with the 30t oval chainring. The Switch is available in six different direct mount options: Shimano, Cinch, SRAM, E13, Cannondale and Hope. The system offers rings in both round and oval profiles with four tooth sizes available: 28, 30, 32 and 34t. The Switch is compatible with three offsets—regular, Boost and Super Boost—and is priced at $23 for the carrier, while the chainrings range from $40 to $44.
