You should practice every mountain bike skill with a focus on executing the skill correctly. When riding trails, however, we simply do whatever is most ingrained.
Fortunately, you can usually find a plowed parking lot or a parking garage to practice in. Form the habit of riding in balance when descending by practicing standing and coasting while hinged at the hips with all of your weight resting on your pedals.
