New Product Discovery: Cane Creek’s new eeWings titanium crankset

Holding ourselves to the highest standards of testing and design

Cane Creek Cycling Components has announced the release of a premium crankset called eeWings. The crankset is made entirely from high-grade titanium and is designed for ultimate stiffness and durability while weighing in at a mere 400 grams – in the same weight range as premium carbon cranks but 20% to 30% stiffer and significantly more durable.

eeWings are designed to keep up with the rigorous demands of the most aggressive trail and enduro mountain bikers – though they will benefit any rider who puts a premium on durability, stiffness and light weight. In fact, Cane Creek has such confidence in the eeWings’ quality and durability that they are backing the cranks with a 10-year limited warranty.

“Through the course of aggressive riding, you invariably hit your cranks against rocks and other trail features which causes structural damage to carbon cranks and can lead to them breaking,” said Sam Anderson, product manager for Cane Creek. “Titanium just brushes those hits off so the eeWings can withstand a lot more abuse than other high-end cranks and not end up structurally compromised or broken. At the same time, they are incredibly stiff so more of the energy you put into each pedal stroke makes it to the back wheel and helps push you down the trail.”

The cranks have a titanium 30mm spindle and are compatible with BSA73mm, PF92/PF89.5, 392EVO bottom brackets as well as PF30 and BB30 bottom brackets with outboard bearing configurations. The eeWings also include an innovative new CNC machined aluminum preloader that is compatible with multiple other high-end 30mm spindle cranks – providing a more durable solution over preloaders from other manufacturers, which are often made from plastic or other less durable materials.

“When we first set out to make a crankset we knew we wanted to create something that really pushed boundaries and deserved the ee designation,” said Brent Graves, president and CEO of Cane Creek. “That meant not cutting a single corner, using the best materials regardless of cost and holding ourselves to the highest standards of testing and design, We’ve done those things and it’s resulted in a truly exceptional product that we’re all very proud of.”

The eeWings were developed in collaboration with revolutionary components designer Craig Edwards and represent the first major expansion to Cane Creek’s line of ee products.  Edwards joined the Cane Creek team in October of 2016 as part of an exclusive deal for the company to take over manufacturing and distribution of his ultra-light eeBrake.

The eeWings are Cane Creek’s first entry into the crankset category, however they are familiar territory for Edwards who, in the 1990’s, designed the Sweetwings – a revolutionary hollow steel crankset that was years ahead of its time and set a course for bicycle crank development as we know it today.

eeWings come in a subdued, brushed titanium finish with only a minimalistic laser-etched graphic on the face of the crank. In addition to allowing the titanium to take center stage aesthetically, this simple design will allow riders to use Scotch-Brite or a similar abrasive to remove small scratches and blemishes that accumulate in the finish over time and use.

eeWings will retail for $999 and will be available late spring 2018. You can purchase yours through Cane Creek distributors, retailers or factory direct through the company’s website at www.canecreek.com.
