RockShox has redesigned the legendary BoXXer form from the ground up. After two years of development, they have delivered a balance of stiffness and compliance in an all-new 38mm chassis. 
All-New DebonAir+ Air Spring
RockShox is utilizing a new twin-tube design in the redesigned BoXXer. Through the beginning of the travel, small bump responsiveness and suppleness have been increased, but it still ramps up for big compressions and square-edged hits. Like the previous generations, both air pressure and Bottomless Tokens make the air spring nearly infinitely tunable.
The new BoXXer features a twin tube air spring, where a separate air chamber is nested inside the 38mm uppers. To achieve the desired spring curve, adjustments were made to the air spring design. Initially, when the air spring was integrated into the ID of the 38mm upper tubes, it resulted in a progressive spring curve, which might not suit all DH racers.
To address this, the design team introduced the twin tube and increased the air spring shaft diameter from the traditional 10mm to a hollow 14mm shaft. This modification created additional negative volume for the air spring.
With the twin tube sleeve in place, precise control over the different spring volumes (positive, negative, and casting-trapped air in the lower leg) became possible. This optimization allows for a more linear spring curve, ensuring maximum utilization of travel, which can be beneficial for riders who require the full range of suspension travel.
The designers made specific adjustments to the BoXXer’s air chamber volume to improve its performance across various scenarios. By increasing the negative air chamber volume at the top of the travel, the fork becomes more effective in absorbing small bumps. Additionally, a newly implemented jounce bottom-out bumper ensures smoother and quieter landings when encountering significant drops.
The new BoXXer incorporates a clever solution to ensure continuous lubrication for its bushings, especially during gnarly rides on rough terrain. The upper tubes are equipped with oil flow ports positioned near the bottom. While you ride rough and rowdy trails, these ports facilitate the circulation of lubricating oil through the bushings, effectively reducing friction.
Moreover, these oil flow ports offer an additional advantage when the fork experiences significant compression during aggressive riding and big features. The innovative design evenly distributes the air volume above the lower bushing, resulting in a consistent spring rate that riders can rely on during challenging drop-ins.
ButterCups and Charger 3 RC2 Damper
The ButterCups that made waves in the 2023 Pike, Lyrik, and Zeb forks are now integrated into the BoXXer platform. The small gold-packaged rubber pucks sit at the end of the damper and air spring shafts and are designed to dampen high-frequency vibrations before they reach your hands and arms. Additionally, the Charger 3 RC2 damper that was introduced in the aforementioned forks is now part of the BoXXer family. High-Speed and Low-Speed Compression cross-talk was eliminated, meaning that truly independent compression tuning is now possible.
