Sea Otter 2015 Recap

Sea Otter this year was huge. The races were big, and the expo area was enormous. If we were to pick one trend that looked to be the biggest story in the expo area, it was the explosion of product offerings for the plus-sized market, the bikes sized as either 27.5-plus or 29-plus. The new bikes that were launched at the Sea Otter were big — literally.  Companies such as Rocky Mountain, Trek, and Manitou all went big into the plus-size market.

Rocky Mountain released the Sherpa that offers bike packers the ultimate rig for trail blazing and general adventure rides.

Trek launched their revamped Stache that will be coming with 29+ wheels.

Lastly Manitou unleashed their new Magnum suspension built entirely around plus size wheels.

Aside from all the + wheels, we were able to check out some cool new products from other companies.  100% was around to show us their new Speedcraft shades that have been creating some buzz among mountain bikers with the extensive lens coverage and retro look.

Lazer had their Magma trail helmet on display that features a large vent pattern and lightweight shell for riders looking to shave some weight off their helmets.

And of course the new Shimano XT M8000 was one of the biggest highlights of the weekend.  The new overhauled 11-speed XT looked ready for the trail.

With another good year at Sea Otter under our belts, we are already looking forward to next year.  Check out our next issue of Mountain Bike Action to see other products that we are excited about from the 2015 Sea Otter Classic.
