WORLD CUP SHORT TRACK CROSS-COUNTRY RANKINGS

Below you can see the current rankings for this new points category following this past weekend’s World Cup event in Albstadt, Germany.

WORLD CUP XCO RESULTS FROM ALBSTADT, GERMANY, MAY 8, 2022

It looks like Nino Schurter has a serious challenger this year, as Olympic champion Thomas Pidcock looks to be the strongest racer in the men’s ranks right now. Nino needs only one more victory to surpass Julien Absalon on the all-time win list for XCO World Cups. We expect he’ll get it sooner or later, but he didn’t get it this weekend. We’ll see what happens in the next few months. Pidcock looks to be one of the toughest competitors Nino has ever faced. Meanwhile, Rebecca McConnell is looking like she’s the woman to beat this year, as she’s now won the first two World Cup XCO races of the year.

AMERICAN CHRISTOPHER BLEVINS TAKES ON NINO SCHURTER IN SPRINT FINISH AT ABSA CAPE EPIC ON TUESDAY

Stage 2 of the 2022 Absa Cape Epic marked the longest stage of this year’s race. The men’s race was decided in a nail-biting sprint finish. Nino Schurter (SUI) and Lars Forster (SUI) of SCOTT-SRAM were heading towards the finish line in the lead, but Christopher Blevins (USA) overtook them. His partner Matt Beers (RSA) could not go with him, so SCOTT-SRAM took the stage win.
