Team of the Month: Salem County Reactors Mountain Bike Team in Salem County, New Jersey
Any team fun facts?
First NICA medal in New Jersey: The very first medal awarded at New Jersey’s inaugural race was to a Reactor student: Riley Quirk, 5th place for 8th grade boys.
Shred the Edge: The team co-hosts a fundraising mountain bike race with Camp Edge called “Shred the Edge.” They use their home course and attract riders from the tri-state area. They offer children’s, adult novice and advanced divisions. The athletes, coaches and parents all pitch in to make this a great event, including overnight camping. Many other fundraising activities are held throughout the year from a shoe-recycling drive, sponsorships, candy sales, community service road cleanup, and more.
Woodstown Parade: The Reactors rock their team spirit as they participate in the local July 4th parade each year. They draw great applause as the students and coaches pedal through the streets on their bikes in their bright-green Reactors jerseys.
Frasers: Mike and Cathy Fraser, owners of Sneakers and Spokes in Woodstown, New Jersey, started the Reactors team in 2017. Mike and Cathy have two adult children, Lyndsey and Michael, who are also avid cyclists and runners. Mike and Cathy’s passion for youth and mountain biking continues to be contagious, as the team has grown from four students and one coach to over 43 students and 16 coaches in four years.
Girls: We are proud of the growing number of girls joining the team. Having five female coaches makes it a comfortable setting for females on the team. The girls ride along with the boys and are ready to take on any challenge on the trails.
