Team of the Month: Salem County Reactors Mountain Bike Team in Salem County, New Jersey

Woodstown Fourth of July Parade.

When does your season start? And why?

New Jersey NICA is a spring league. Being a spring league means starting the season in early December and often encountering extreme weather conditions too harsh for outdoor rides. Weather conditions don’t stop the team from practicing. They do weekly spin classes and Tabata classes. They even added weekly Skype workouts this year.

What is your favorite course?

The team’s favorite course is Camp Edge, located in Alloway, New Jersey. This is not only the team’s favorite course but also their home course. Head Director Mike Fraser was instrumental in securing Camp Edge as a race location for the league. The students and coaches have dedicated many hours to trail work at Camp Edge. One student, Riley Quirk, led the project of building a 140-foot bridge across a swampy area. New this year, the coaches have expanded upon the camp’s Sasquatch theme by strategically placing Sasquatch statues and life-size cutout silhouettes throughout the trails.
