THROWBACK THURSDAY: “INSANE” WAYNE CROASDALE

The quintessential mountain bike rocker.

If Mötley Crüe had a baby, it would be this guy right here. “Insane” Wayne Croasdale was the quintessential mountain bike rocker.

“When I first got serious about mountain bike racing in the early ‘90s,” says Croasdale, “I noticed all the racers were mostly clean-cut, super-fit guys that were really serious about training. I was into heavy-metal rock bands at the time. like Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Poison, etc., and wanted to incorporate that type of style/flare to help me stand out from the other racers.” With the 1990 National DH Championship under his belt, he still knew how to have fun and play-ride at the famous “U” trails in Palmdale, California. Wayne was always a fan favorite and can be spotted today riding the rolling hills of the Sierra Nevadas and still competes at the infamous Kamikaze in Mammoth whenever they hold a race. Wayne had rad style, and his bikes were often peppered with new products that he was instrumental in developing.
