Trail Testing: Lapierre Spicy 527

When we were looking for our next bike to review, we wanted something different.  Something you don’t see everyday.  Something that is on the cutting edge of mountain bike technology.  Well we found it!  The Lapierre Spicy 527. The Spicy 527 features e:i technology that automatically changes the rear suspension to suit the terrain.  Imagine a climb switch that operates on its own.  So we had to get our hands on this bike to check it out.  The bike arrived like a welcomed Christmas present and we started putting miles on it.  Keep your eyes peeled for the complete write-up in the coming pages of Mountain Bike Action Magazine.  In the meantime, here is a teaser of the Spicy 527. The e:i technology is designed to automatically put the suspension in the correct position during the ride.  The system consists of a modified RockShox Monarch shock, display unit, a rechargeable battery and 3 sensors.   There is 1 accelerometer on the fork, 1 accelerometer in the stem and 1 cadence sensor in the axle of the crank.  These sensors talk to the computer which changes the compression setting on the rear shock automatically depending on the terrain.
