Trailside Collection by Lisa Lopuck

Lisa Lopuck has been an artist ever since she could hold a pencil. At the age of 8, she began formal oil painting instruction and by age 14, had mastered photo-realism. After a successful career as a Creative Director for Disney and other large consumer brands, in 1998, she turned exclusively to watercolors—what she considers a more difficult and challenging medium than oils.

Rollin’ Out

Rollin’ Out is part of the Trailside Collection of the “Digital Pop” series. The Trailside Collection is inspired by the incredible Oz Trail system of Northwest Arkansas, and follows two friends on an epic day of mountain biking – from “Rollin’ Out” in the morning to finishing off the day with a nice cold one at “Vista Point.”

Her goal is to redefine how people view watercolors—to reveal its power to portray rich color, depth, and realism, and to show that watercolors can be every bit as “finished” as oils. Lisa’s unique style achieves a vast richness of color and texture—building layer after layer to achieve an unprecedented level of depth.

Her tropical floral series enjoyed great success, represented at galleries in Sedona, Kauai, and Pasadena, and selling to collectors worldwide. After a few years hiatus, Lisa is back with an exciting new series.

Fat Tire Flats

Water Break

As a long time horse owner and competitor, Lisa knows the horse inside and out. “Growing up, if I wasn’t riding or hanging out at the barn, I was drawing horses—I was that horse-crazy kid.” Recently, her husband introduced her to the sport of Cowboy Mounted Shooting. She loved seeing the crazy action photography and decided she wanted to capture that same energy in watercolor. The series name is a double entendre. Not only do the paintings focus on just the horse’s emotion, often cropping out the rider—capturing just a “piece” of the action—but they also convey how much horses love being a “piece of the action” as much as we do.

Vista Point

Each painting in the series is full of bold color, movement, and texture—exaggerating the action. In addition, Lisa literally “brands” each piece with a branding iron custom made with her signature, and custom builds the western-inspired frames herself.
