Practice basic skills on a trail you know well. Break the skill down into parts, and practice them one at a time. For cornering, I practice looking through the corners, squaring my hips and leaning my bike. I just pick one thing to focus on at a time.

If you don’t already have a dropper post on your bike, get one. I run a Fox Transfer post, as it’s the best one out there. There’s a lot more satisfaction and joy in mountain biking if you embrace the process and the adventure.

Chloe is a four-time U.S. national champion, having swept the Elite Women’s Cross-Country and Short-Track titles in both 2015 and 2019. She’s also a World Cup Short-Track winner and 2016 Olympian.

Mountain Bike Action is a monthly magazine devoted to all things mountain biking (yes, that’s 12 times a year because we never take a month off of mountain biking). It has been around since 1986 and we’re still having fun.
