REI BIKES—CHECK OUT THESE BIKES

REI’s Co-op CyclesDRT 2.1 Bike

Question:

I have looked through your archives and haven’t found anything reviewing the new REI line of bikes. I personally have the DRT 2.0, which is a hardtail, but they did just release a new full-suspension version as well. I love the DRT, especially the high-quality components on a “starter” bike. I am at the age where my motto is, “I can go as fast as I want uphill!” Anyway, I feel the new line of bikes would be worthy of your review. Thanks so much. I really enjoy the magazine!

Co-op Cycles DRT 3.1 Bike-$2200

Answer:

REI replaced its previous in-house brand Novara with its new bicycle brand Co-op Cycles. You’re right to say the DRT mountain bike models offer a good bang-for-the-buck. We tracked down the full-suspension model you spoke of and noticed it had a four-bar suspension system, along with an X-Fusion dropper post, Shimano 1×10 speed drivetrain and a RockShox Sektor RL fork. At $2200, that’s an impressive value. We’ll be reaching out to REI soon to see if we can get one of its Co-op Cycle models in for testing.
