CHROMAG DUNE GRIP REVIEW – TWO COMPOUNDS TO SUIT PERSONAL PREFERENCES

Chromag's two compound offerings give personalized grip feel

CHROMAG DUNE GRIP REVIEW

Tech features:

Chromag Dune grips are the latest grip offering from the Canadian brand and come in two variants—the standard 15A and the Supasoft 9A compounds—each designed to cater to different rider preferences. The 15A compound grips are known for their softness, yet with a moderate wear life, they balance durability and tackiness. On the other hand, the Supasoft 9A compound is the tackiest and softest option available from Chromag, prioritizing grip over durability.

Both versions of the grips share common design features, such as a thin diameter for better control and a rounded diamond knurling pattern for effective traction and grip without being overly harsh in all kinds of weather and trail conditions.

They also feature a simple single clamp design for secure attachment and to allow full use of the handlebar width, enhancing control and comfort. Dimensionally, both the 15A and 9A grips measure 134mm in length and 30mm in diameter.

Field test results:

Our test riders first tried the Dune grips in the standard 15A compound. Although this is their standard option, it is still quite soft compared to other grip compounds. In terms of durability, the 15A grips offer a balance between softness and being able to hold up over time, making them a versatile option for various conditions or riding styles.

The rounded diamond knurling pattern is comfortable whether you ride with or without gloves and gives a secure feeling on the bars. Chromag’s Supasoft 9A grips, which are noticeably softer than the 15A, provide ultimate grip but are prone to faster wear, suitable for riders who prioritize grip in more heinous weather conditions or just prefer a softer grip and don’t mind more frequent replacements.

Like with the standard compound, the diamond knurling pattern gave us plenty of grip and felt very comfortable without gloves. We found that we preferred to run the 15A grips on our trail and enduro bikes and the 9A grips on our downhill or dirt jump bikes, where we wanted to prioritize grip and control. This combination of features in the Chromag Dune grips makes them adaptable for a wide range of riders and riding conditions, whether the preference is for longevity and durability while still feeling soft or maximum grip performance and bike control.
