First Ride Review: Race Face’s New Turbine Flat Pedal – Locked In and Loaded

Race Face has released the new Turbine pedal, designed for ultimate grip and a locked-in ride feel. Race Face claims that the new Turbine flat pedal has the most concave pedal platform on the market with 3mm of concavity. It is designed to cradle the foot in a secure pocket, locking it in place while maintaining comfort and support. Unlike pedal designs that create “concavity” with tall pins around the perimeter, the body of Turbine is concave in all directions—front to back, inboard to outboard. Race Face claims that the Turbine is 17% more concave, 27g lighter, and only 5% thicker than the closest competition.

The Turbine pedal’s body is made of machined 6061 aluminum that comes in one size measuring 115mm long x 110mm wide with a 20mm maximum platform thickness. Plus, there is no bearing bump in the middle for improved ergonomics and comfort. There are 11 height-adjustable pins per side which are bottom-mounted for easy removal. Their internals are fully rebuildable and serviceable too. The Turbine pedals retail for $180, are backed by Race Face’s lifetime warranty, and are offered in seven color options: Black, Silver, Kashmoney, Purple, Orange, Red, and Blue.

We have been riding the new Turbine flat pedals for a few weeks in a variety of conditions and true to Race Face’s claim, they have a high level of grip and deliver a locked in feel. Grip is very good even with shoes that have firmer sole compounds too. The concave shape and large platform offer good foot support and overall comfort too. Time will tell how they withstand wet weather and abuse but we’ve smashed them on a few rocks pretty hard already leaving nothing more than a small scratch. they weigh 416 grams per pair. Stay tuned for a long term review after we beat on these pedals for a while.
