GIANT PROSHIELD MTB JACKET REVIEW

Tech features:

Giant’s Proshield mens MTB jacket is made from 100-percent polyester and features Giant’s ProTextura Plus technology, which is designed to keep wind and water out while allowing body heat and internal moisture to escape, with adequate breathability to keep the wearer comfortable. It has a large vent in the back and two closable zipper vents under the armpits to help with its ventilation.

The arm cuffs are adjustable with a Velcro strap, and the hood is removable and large enough to fit over a helmet if necessary with two draw cords that help it stay in place. The main front zipper is protected by a flap with a number of magnets to keep it in place and add another layer of protection from the elements. It also has two moderately sized zipper pockets on the sides of the jacket to keep your possessions safe.

Field test results:

Giant’s Proshield mens MTB jacket warms well and has plenty of ventilation for cooler days on the bike when you need to stay warm, but you don’t want to overdo it. Being able to zip or unzip the armpit vents is a nice convenience, and we would usually unzip them while riding, but for just standing around, we’d keep them zipped up so less heat would escape. We liked the magnetic flap covering the front zipper, but sometimes they made it a little harder to unzip the jacket, as they would snap back into place before we could pass them by, thereby stalling our hand on its way down.

This was our mountain bike jacket of choice when going to a bike park and having to ride the cold lift in the wind, then bombing down, with our efforts making us warm. On rainy bike park days, the jacket protected us extremely well from the rain and mud we constantly faced, which meant we were warm and dry the whole day and able to focus on the riding and not our body temperature. It also fit well and stretched to our positions on the bike without uncomfortable tension on any part of our anatomy.
