How’s Keegan Swenson Doing Now?

After seeing that Keegan Swenson and his Cape Epic team partner Matt Beers didn’t finish in the top three today, we went looking through the results to see how they did.

Keegan and Beers finished in ninth place in the Prologue and 8th in Stage 1. They’re now trailing the leaders (Nino Schurter and Filippo Colombo by 7 minutes, 27 seconds. They still have 6 more days of racing ahead of them, so we can’t count them out yet.

There were 743 teams that started the Absa Cape Epic this year. As of now, 740 teams have completed both the Prologue and Stage One of the 8-day stage race.

Some MBA readers may not know that Keegan Swenson and Sofia Gomez Villafane got engaged to be married last summer. Sofia  is leading the UCI Women’s competition in this year’s Cape Epic, They’ve been together for more than 12 years now, Keegan told us when he announced their engagement last summer.

Sofia’s race info shows that she’s racing for her native Argentina, but she’s actually been living in the U.S. for years. Keegan and Sofia are known as our sport’s “power couple” in the United States. Keegan and Sofia have both been dominating the Life Time Grand Prix events lately. At last month’s Belgian Waffle Ride gravel race in Arizona, Keegan won the men’s division and Sofia won the women’s category.
