NORTHWAVE MULTICROSS FLAT PEDAL SHOE REVIEW
Feel the flow
NORTHWAVE MULTICROSS
Tech features: Northwave’s Multicross is intended to be a lightweight, modern shoe built for the outdoors with support for trail riding. It sports a Vibram Fort Williams sole matched to an EVA midsole for stability and improved shock absorbing. The shoes also utilize a simple laced closure with an elastic strap on the tongue to keep the laces from flopping around during riding. At the toe is a Thermowelded layer with a hardened area for protection over the mesh top. The rest of the Multicross uses the same air mesh for breathability and airflow.
Field test results: Hot summer ride? Thanks to the mesh upper material, the Multicross is ideal for warm conditions when airflow is vital. Even with thicker socks, our feet could breathe and were kept cool. This is a great shoe for weekend trail rides, but it was just as comfortable for e-bike jaunts or commuting. Hiking up a loose section of dirt to session trails is not these shoes’ forte, as the Multicross tread design preferred to be on the pedals. The toe cap protection was a nice addition that made the Multicross more impervious to flying rocks and debris on a trail ride; however, these shoes do not offer as much protection as others we have tested. They’re well-rounded shoes that are lightweight with heaps of airflow to keep a rider cool and comfortable.
