Comedian Paul Reubens came up with the character in 1977, during a performance with the comedy group The Groundlings. As Reuben’s alter ego, Pee Wee Herman continued to evolve and his stand-up performances became legendary. He took this success to the big screen in 1985 with the release of the movie “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure,” introducing Pee Wee to a legion of new fans.
