First Ride – 2019 Specialized Stumpjumper ST 29

First debuted in 1981, the Specialized Stumpjumper is one of the most iconic mountain bikes in the world. In fact, it was the first full production mountain bike to be sold to the general public. The original Stumpy with its steel frame and 26” wheels is unrecognizable to the high tech carbon model that sits in front of us today.

Missy “The Missile” Giove was one of mountain

Missy “The Missile” Giove was one of mountain biking’s biggest stars in the 1990s. She won the 1994 Elite Women’s Downhill World Championship and the UCI Downhill World Cup titles for 1996 and ’97. She was also said to be the all-time leader in America’s National Off-Road Bicycle Association downhill racing, with 14 downhill wins in the NORBA Nationals.
Missy was pretty, friendly and popular. She was also a bit eccentric. She kept the skeleton of a pet piranha hanging from her neck, both on and off the racecourse.
